Asparagus Wrapped in bacon (Asperges enveloppées dans du bacon)

Description: Asparagus wrapped in crispy smokey bacon. A combination of juicy asparagus and the saltiness from bacon gives you a nice and delightful bite. Can be served as canape or finger food for parties.
Serves: 3
Cooking time: 20 minutes

  • Sliced bacon – 250g cut in half
  • Asparagus – 240g cut into 4 pieces

1. Wash the asparagus and pat them dry. Trim off the woody stems.
2. Boil (ideally steam) the asparagus for 3 minutes and then cut them into 4 pieces.
3. Wrap the bacon around 3 pieces of asparagus and use a toothpick to hold them together
4. Grind black pepper on each side and grill in a non-stick frying pan both sides for about 3 – 4 minutes in total until bacon is cooked.

Your daily values may vary depending on your calorie needs. The values for “Waitrose 12 Rashers of unsmoked dry-cured streaky bacon 250g” were used for the sliced bacon.

This is one of your 5 A Day. It is a low-carb, high in protein dish and can be served as a side. It is very savory and might be good for vegetable “haters”… It worked on my husband, you could try it with kids? 🙂

However, it is high in fat and salt. Therefore, to balance it out, you could include other dishes with more carbs, such as rice, quinoa, potatoes, pasta, bread, and cereals, or with more fibres (vegetables and fruits). Also, consider using ingredients and seasonings with less fat or salt.
